Sunday 3rd December

55 knot overnight winds did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of this racing
yacht. They presented themselves to the start line early and became
entangled in a mooring buoy. Poole ILB was launched at 1004hrs to reports of
a yacht having difficulty with its engine and clinging to a buoy somewhere
North of Brownsea Island.

The ILB arrived on scene a five minutes later and after a bit of persuasion the lifeboat crew were able to free the stricken yacht from the mooring and towed her back to her berth in a nearby marina.
The racing was cancelled due to excessive winds.

The lifeboat crew weren't able to return to station just yet,as when they
were leaving the marina they spotted another yacht in difficulty. This time
unmanned, smashing itself against a jetty.

A call was made to the coastguard and the ILB was rerouted to see whether the yacht could be secured.

A tow was attached and the yacht was removed from the jetty that it had
demolished. The yacht's owner stood shoreside and looked on in horror as his
newly acquired damaged yacht was disconnected from its newly laid mooring,
that had still been attached to the boat, but was no longer attached to the
sea bed. He then drove around to the town's marina where the yacht was
taken. He proceeded down on to the pontoon system to receive her in and
secure her up.
