Sunday 13th February

Another blowy day with gale force hail stone squalls blowing through.

A day best spent indoors !

1434 The ILB was launched to a report of two jet skis in difficulty near to Brownsea Island bird sanctuary.

The jet skiers and jet skis had been washed up on the rocks and were extremely exhausted, one man in particular was very cold and drained.

It was decided to recover the exhausted man into the ILB. A crewman was put ashore to help the second casualty, he sat him on one of the jet ski's and secured the other jet ski to it, the crewman then sat on the other and secured a towline so they could be towed in tandem.

They took them to the fuel barge where they tied the jet ski's up so they would not incur any further damage. The ILB then took the casualties back to Baiter Park where an ambulance was requested as the 1st casualty had a deep laceration in his right hand, it was quite bad.

The ILB was then tasked to a windsurfer, the jet ski's were later recovered by the owner on his own boat.

In the second incident a windsurfer had become extremely exhausted and had taken refuge on Brownsea. The ILB found his board and rig in the bushes on the Island. They searched the shorelines and were then informed by Portland that the missing windsurfer had been picked up by the National Trust warden and was at Brownsea Castle. The ILB made its way to the castle where they found the casualty to be extremely exhausted and cold, they took him and his board back to Poole Yacht club.
