Friday 1st October

The ALB was launched at 18.34 on one of the filthiest nights, the wind was gusting from the South west 6-8 and the waves were rolling high.

The ALB was launched to a report of a motor boat with an engine problems in heavy seas.

The 16 metres motor boat "Spingbow" had left Yarmouth heading for Poole there was a man in his 50's onboard and two teenagers. The man had put out a Pan Pan he sounded exhausted, the two teenagers were below deck with bad sea sickness and the boat had taken a pounding from the relentless squalls blowing through.

The Lifeboat found the Motor boat in Poole bay, it was having difficulties holding a course, they asked the man over the radio to follow them into the harbour where the waters were quieter. Here four crew transferred safely onto the stricken boat took over the controls and administered first aid.

They found the deck upside down, the tender had been washed off the back and the man was absolutely exhausted he had signs of hypothermia so an ambulance was requested to standby at Dolphin Marina.

They took the casualties into the safety of Dolphin Marina where the ambulance crew treated all of them, they soon recovered.

The ALB returned to station at 20.00hrs.
