Wed 1 Jan New Year's Night 2002/2003

Both boats were launched at about 0210 to a report of a man in the water having jumped off Bournemouth Pier. The Inshore Lifeboat (ILB) was first away and made its way as fast as it could to Bournemouth Pier. The All Weather Lifeboat (ALB) was also quickly underway but at its slower speed. The ILB had just arrived at Bournemouth Pier when the Coastguard reported that a body had been washed up onto the beach. The ALB had got as far as the East Looe buoy. Both boats returned to Station. The weather was marginal for ILB operations and the Helmsman had to make his was carefully back to the Station.
