The ILB was launched at 1105 to a report of a vessel sinking off
Old Harry rock. The ILB was on scene by 1129. The 12 metre craft
had a sizeable hole in its hull and was in imminent danger of sinking.
Fortunately two of the RNLI's Training Lifeboats were in the vicinity
and were able to assist in pumping the casualty almost dry. Two
of the ILB crew went aboard the casualty and were able to slow the
in flow of water by jamming a lifejacket in the hole and then inflating
the lifejacket. Portable pumps from the Training Lifeboats were
used to keep the casualty afloat as it was towed in to Poole Harbour
by Training Lifeboat TL01. The ILB took over the tow at Poole Quay
and manoeuvred the casualty under Poole Bridge to Davis Boatyard
where it was craned ashore. The ILB was out for just over 2 hours.
