Sun Sept 15

Both the All Weather(ALB) and Inshore(ILB) Lifeboats were launched at 1209 to a report of a boat on fire in Balls Lake. The ILB was first on scene where they found a cabin cruiser with an over-heated engine at Hutchins Buoy. The boat's automatic extinguisher had operated but the engine was still smoking. The ILB removed 3 people from the boat and a harbour launch removed another 2 and a dog! The ILB crew also removed a gas cylinder before retiring to a safe distance as the cabin cruiser had 80 litres of fuel onboard. The ILB landed the people ashore at Rockley. The ALB assessed it as safe to tow the cabin cruiser and towed it to Royal Marines Poole, where the local Fire Brigade inspected the boat to ensure that the fire would not re-ignite. The ALB then towed the boat to its mooring at Rockley. The ILB and ALB were away from Station for just over an hour and a half.
