Sun Sept 5

The Inshore Lifeboat (ILB) was launched at 1738 to a report of a man in difficulty swimming off Sandbanks beach. The ILB was quickly on scene where they found a man in the water up against the second groyne outside the chain ferry at the entrance to Poole Harbour. He was being supported in the water by an RNLI Beach Rescue Lifeguard and there were some people on the groyne who had a line down to the pair. The strong flood tide and the rough nature of the groyne prevented a recovery directly onto the groyne. The ILB towed the two of them clear of the groyne and recovered them onto the boat. The casualty, suffering from bumps and bruises, was put ashore onto the beach where he was given first aid by RNLI Beach Rescue before being handed over to an ambulance crew.
