There are many good sources of information on keeping safe on or near the sea.

The RNLI headquarters site www.rnli.org.uk contains a variety of information and tips on commercial vessels and leisure craft. It covers information on such subjects as Beach Safety, Recreational Boat Users, Personal Watercraft, Limiting Machinery Failure and the recommended procedures to follow in case of incidents such as "Man Overboard".

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency www.mcga.gov.uk have information on the role they fulfill for example conducting Search and Rescue, broadcasting Maritime Safety Information (MSI) and responding to Medical emergencies (MEDILINK).

Being aware and prepared for the likely weather conditions is an important factor in marine safety,  The Met Office http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/marine/index.html   have sections on Marine weather forecasts including the shipping forecast, inshore waters forecast and gale warnings - make a habit of reviewing the predicted conditions before venturing out to sea.
