Can you help by becoming a Volunteer?

The RNLI relies very heavily on volunteers. There are many ways in which you could help the RNLI. We need fundraiser's, presenters, marketeers, salesmen, teachers, water safety advisors, event helpers. collectors, sponsors, cooks bottle washers .... The list is endless! The RNLI also requires volunteer crew members.

CAN YOU HELP IN POOLE?

If anyone is interested in becoming a member of the crew then please do get in touch or call in at the boat house for a chat. We will be interviewing for new recruits at the end of the August/September.

There are a number of conditions that prospective crew will have to meet, please read these and satisfy yourself that you can meet the requirements :-


Criteria for Crew Members

Age for New Entrants
18 – 55yrs Considered at 17 with parental consent.
Physical Fitness
Able bodied & good standard of fitness. A medical is required which is given by the station lifeboat doctor
Eyesight Good eyesight and must not be colour blind. Eyesight test forms part of the medical.
Swimming Ability
Ideally 100 metres fully clothed any swimming style.
Experience
Previous experience in yachting or boating is preferred but not essential. Training will be given as necessary.
Living distance
Crew should live and work close to the station in order to be able to arrive
within 5 minutes without breaking the road speed limits.
Weekday availability
Must be able to turn out on call from a maximum of 4 miles distance for at least 2 daytime weekdays and 2 overnight weekdays per week. Must have full support from employer.
Weekend availability
Must be able to turn out on a call from a maximum of 4 miles* distance for weekends starting 1900hrs Friday to 0800hrs Monday.
Be able to attend the boathouse for most weekly crew meetings on a Thursday 7.45pm till 9pm
Training Requirements
Full training will be given and at various stages of training it will necessary to attend the Lifeboat College for courses. Normally 2 courses of 1 week each in the first years training.
First Aid and VHF radio telephony training is also given.
General
The ability to work effectively as a part of a close team is vital.

Poole Station has a new fundraising Guild who will be on the lookout for volunteers to manage the various activities. The Guild has successfully sold RNLI souvenirs, held fundraising coffee mornings and annual flag days. Can you help?

If you think you can help with the myriad of tasks that allow the RNLI to raise funds then contact your local Area Organiser. The Area Organiser for Dorset and Wiltshire is Rebecca Connor and she can be contacted through the South West Region Head Office 01179 444999.

Poole Lifeboat Station recruits lifeboat crew members once a year in the autumn. We are looking for people between the ages of 17 and 55 who live and/or work within 7 to 8 minutes of the Station on Poole Quay who can make themselves available for as much of the week (and weekends!) as possible. Use the "Contact Us" facility at the top of this web page to enquire about joining.

The old boathouse at the East end of Poole Quay used to be the original Lifeboat Station and now houses a Museum for the RNLI in the area.
