The Mayors Visit.
His Worshipful Mayor and Admiral of the port, Councillor
Lou Knight and Angela Knight visited Poole Lifeboat Station on a very
cold Saturday afternoon.
This was the first time that the Admiral of the port had visited the station
for some years, though the Mayor had supported the Poole lifeboat station
fundraising group when they had their inaugural event at the Lifeboat
College last November.
Coxswain Jonathan Clark said "It was a great honour to fly the Admiral
of the port's ensign on the lifeboat and the station appreciated the Mayors
support and visit."
The Mayor had a look behind the scenes of the busy station and then had
a close inspection of the lifeboats.
They then went for a trip on the lifeboats through the harbour and into
Poole bay.
The Mayor took the controls of the boat, to see how she handled and he
commented that "she was more responsive then a bus ". He was
a great sport and took a spin on the Inshore lifeboat afterwards the Mayor
said "We have had a phenomenal afternoon and really appreciated the
opportunity to join the crews, and he added "The ILB was very exhilarating
!".
Before he left the station, the Mayor presented helmsman Gavin McGuinness
with a certificate for completing his training task book.
